Barri Tower
The original tower has been demolished and rebuilt as a residential home, with some of the stylistic and decorative features retained. The most outstanding feature of this beautiful ancestral building is the beautiful coat of arms carved in stone on the facade. This coat of arms of the Mújica-Butrón family bears the date of the previous building, 1603. The building we see today occupies the former site of the tower, now turned into a residential building. The coat of arms has an inscription in Basque with possibly the oldest epigraphic text still preserved in the language "Muxica areriocaz agica Butroe celangoa da Oroc daquie garaia nago eria gordeazo". "Mujica chewing up the enemies Butrón. All know me to be the victor. Town be on guard!" |
